Il-Mellieħa, also known as Mellieħa, is a village of approximately 6,500 inhabitants located in the north-west of Malta.

History
The region was deserted after the Arab conquest of 870, probably due to frequent raids by Muslim corsairs.
When the island was ceded to the Knights of Malta in 1530, Mellieħa was one of the settlements they established, complete with fortifications and a church: the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieħa, which became one of the most venerated places on the island.
