Record Extracts

Catholic

The majority of records from which the Tunisian indexes are extracted come from the parish registers of the Catholic Church of Tunisia.
The prelature organizes a record search service by correspondence.

To obtain a record, you must send a written request (M. le Chancelier de la Prélature de Tunis, 4 rue d'Alger, 1000 Tunis, TUNISIE). Allow 6.10 euros per record found. Wait for the result of their search accompanied by their invoice before paying.

In addition, you can contact them by email:
chancellerietunisie(at)gmail.com
eveche.tunisie(at)evechetunisie.org
prelat.tunisie(at)evechetunisie.org

Civil

French civil records can be requested online for free on the French diplomacy website (Prefer Internet Explorer to fill in the requests). After submitting your request, you will receive a letter with the response. If it is positive, it will be accompanied by the record in question. Do not hesitate to make several requests for the same record with different spellings for the surname and first name.

However, birth and marriage records can only be requested without filiation.

In addition, for genealogical research purposes, records over one hundred years old concerning civil status events abroad (birth, marriage, death...) must be requested at the following address:
Ministère des Affaires étrangères et européennes
Direction des Archives
3, rue Suzanne Masson
93126 La Courneuve Cedex
